Michelle Quinn comments on the High Court throwing out of Dale Vince’s High Court claim against the publisher of the Daily Mail, in ICLG News
11 Jun, 2025 - MICHELLE QUINNPartner Michelle Quinn has provided comment in ICLG News on the throwing out of green energy industrialist Dale Vince’s High Court claim against Associated Newspapers Limited over a Daily Mail article entitled “Labour repays £100,000 to sex pest donor”.
Discussing the decision, Michelle commented: “The law is against Dale Vince in this case. Freedom of expression, including a free and independent press, is a necessary part of a healthy democracy. As part of that, media organisations are allowed to process personal data when producing content, including photos.
“That is not to say organisations have carte blanche to publish whatever they want – they are subject to the law, including in respect of defamation and the duty to process data fairly. However, in this case, anyone reading the article would have known that it was not about Mr Vince and they would not have been led to believe that he was the donor referenced in the headline.”
