Managing Partner Daniel Astaire has provided comment in City AM on the ways in which artificial intelligence can be misused in the legal sector, and the steps that firms must take to ensure that it is used effectively.

“Whilst AI can assist to review papers, provide precis and do background research it cannot be a substitute for trained lawyers casting a critical eye over documents and doing the work themselves.

“Just as one would always check work product from a junior, so too must AI work be checked if used as a reference source, and not be relied upon as an end product. That is lazy lawyering.”
