Michelle Quinn comments on the next steps for River Island in its restructuring plans, in City AM

Partner Michelle Quinn has provided comment in City AM on major high street retailer River Island’s restructuring plans, which failed to pass a vital creditor vote on 1 August, and are now to be decided in the High Court.

Commenting on the creditors’ decision, Michelle said: “The outcome of the meeting is what was expected – it’s a hefty rent cut for some landlords, and 24 shops are being asked to accept zero rent for a period of time. I think it’ll all come down to arguing about whether the landlords will be worse off with River Island in administration.”

Michelle further discussed the wider state of the high street, noting: “Younger people are just less interested in bricks and mortar, going into a shop and trying things on, because online shopping is so handy. If landlords keep pricing high rates, it’s just not conducive to a thriving high street, unfortunately.”

Michelle’s comments were published in City AM, 06 August 2025, and in further pieces regarding Claire’s bankruptcy filing, here and here.
