Rachael Gregory comments on the current perception of the SFO following the UKSC’s ruling in favour of Tom Hayes and Carlo Palombo, in City AM
01 Aug, 2025 - RACHAEL GREGORYPartner Rachael Gregory has provided comment in City AM on the current lack of faith within the professional services industry in the Serious Fraud Office, following its latest failure as the UK Supreme Court quashed the convictions of former traders Tom Hayes and Carlo Palombo.
Commenting on where the ruling leaves the SFO in the eyes of the public, Rachael said: “Hayes and Palombo’s acquittals are the latest in a series of high-profile embarrassments for the SFO. The acquittals give rise to questions as to how, and against whom, the SFO chooses to deploy its limited resources. They also fuel existing scepticism about the SFO’s capabilities and handling of investigations and further erode the public trust in the SFO’s ability to tackle serious fraud.”
